This traditional Log Home floor plan is shown to best illustrate typical building materials,
and construction techniques found in most log homes.
1. Crawl space vapor barrier
2. Concrete footing (8"x 18”) minimum (reinforced)
3. 8" foundation wall minimum (reinforced)
4. Foundation vent
5. Concrete pad footing
6. Deck support post
7. Deck beam - 4"x 6"
8. Deck joist (2"x 6")
9. Exterior decking
10. Floor support post
11. Floor joist - 2"x 8"or 2"x 10" ( 16" O/C preferably)
12. Sill seal
13. Treated sill plate - 2"x 8" (Sub-floor joists rest on this)
14. Sub flooring - 3/4" T&G plywood or OSB (Oreinted Strand Board)
15. Fascia trim - 1"x 6,8,10 or 12 " rough cut cedar
16. Metal Flashing
17. Log wall - 8" minimum (8" is equal to R-19 for best minimum thermal results)
18. Sill seal under plate log
19. Exterior wood sealer ( preferably quality oil based product)
20. Electrical outlets and switches (recessed in log)
21. Window unit
22. Window and door trim
23. Window and door wraps (bucks) - 2"x 6"
24. Interior wall finish
25. Plumbing and electrical in framed walls (called - "wall closets")
26. Log support posts
27. Upper Log Floor Joists
28. Drywall (sheetrock) on stud framing
29. Log Ridge Beam
30. Log purlins ( run parallel with Ridge Beam)
31. Log rafters ( usually installed over purlins)
32. Log stairs

34. Stud framed wall
35. Batt insulation (gable ends- R-19)
36. Sheathing (1/2"- 5/8" OSB)
37. Building felt or house wrap
38. 1"x 6" channel siding, T&G, or ( car siding)
39. 2"x 6" T&G loft decking
40. 2"x 10" or 2" x 12" rafters ( I-joists can be used)
41. Rigid foam insulation, or 12" Fiberglass Batt (min. R-30)
42. Sheathing (1/2"to 5/8" OSB)
43. Building felt
44. Roofing material ( shingles or metal )
45. Log beam porch support
46. Gutters
